For the Attention of All Road Users: Road Safety – Parking.

For the attention of all Road Users – Pedestrians, Horse Riders, Cyclists, Motor Cyclists, Car, Van, Lorry and Farm Vehicle drivers.  Please use the Highways and Byeways safely and considerately.

Parking:  Safe parking on our narrow roads throughout the parish can be difficult – and emphasises the need for care and consideration.  Please park legally and with consideration for the safety of the other road users in mind.

  • Residents and visitors should park with due consideration for others who need to enter/exit their property from drives and garages onto the narrow lanes in the village.  Do not block those access points – and leave sufficient room.   Park with consideration for other traffic.
  • Residents who have builders or tradesmen working in their property should advise them where to park appropriately.  Parking on grass verges by residents, tradesmen or contractors is discouraged as it damages our environment.
  • Do not obstruct junctions and allow for the passage of larger vehicles.  Whilts this applies throughout the villages – the Duck Street/Salisbury Road junction and The Wirr/Salisbury Road junctions have become increasingly crowded – with vehicles parking close to the junction – restricting roadway width and visibility.  Parking and obstructing a junction is an offence (Rule 243 of the Highway Code states you must not park opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space).
  • The Parish Council have informed the Police that the situation has become increasingly problematic and the Police will be paying particular attention to this issue.  Their response can range from speaking to the individuals concerned and advise them accordingly; posting warning notices on the vehicles that are committing the offences; issuing fixed penalty notices.
  • Highway Code Rule 248, that states you must not park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.

Speeding:  Please drive within the speed limits – and with courtesy to and the safety of other road users in mind.  Vehicle speed must be adapted to suit road conditions.
